A Flash of Fright

Had a tiny scary experience the other day. I was in the parking garage at school, the underground one I always park in, and sitting in my car talking to Mike on the phone. I see this guy in my rear-view mirror kind of meandering into the garage. Not unusual, I am not the only on who parks there, after all. But there was something about him that made my eyes stay on him. He was wearing a big jacket and had this strange look about him, gave me the creeps. He walks slowly around to passenger side of my car, not yet noticing me inside. There is an empty space next to me, so once again, not too weird.

Then he does this little flicking motion with his left hand and a blade appears. Switch blade. He just keeps walking around to the front of my car, turns his head, and looks right at me. He stops, blank faced, for a moment knife in hand...then starts slowly to move past the front of my car- still looking at me. So creepy. I glance at the locks of my car- locked- and then back at him. He is still walking, knife out, and he's finally past the front of my car. He stops again- still looking at me......my heart pounding....then he turns to the car parked in front of mine (a green SUV) flips the knife closed, walks slowly to the passenger door and opens it. STILL LOOKING AT ME. I turn on my car and drive away. This all took maybe twenty seconds, but it was really creepy and I had this dark feeling the whole time. I kept thinking, "Can a knife get through a car?" So irrational! But scary.

It's moments like this that make me wonder how I would handle in a true life-or-death situation. I was scared by this tiny knife and stocky guy and felt my mind turn to icy mush. As a writer it was an invaluable experience. As a human, it was horrible.

And on to the next thing. Lets not dwell on bad feelings.

A happy revelation, now! Barry McGovern is coming to my acting class and we're going to do stuff! I don't know what, but it's going to be amazing! AHH! I'm so excited I just might die. Who is Barry McGovern?? Only one of the greatest stage actors who has ever lived. He was made famous by doing the film version of the play Waiting for Godot.

He's the one on the left. If you haven't seen or read this play: DO IT NOW. It's strange, I will warn you. But, get through the whole thing and you will thank me. I promise. I thought I was going to hate it, I'll be honest. I wasn't into Absurdism until I saw and read this play. Samuel Beckett is crazy good. Emphasis on crazy.

Now for something completely different:
I am addicted to eating out. I don't mind cooking, it just takes forever and it's just so much easier to order in.

Here are some places we've tried recently. None are amazing, but they're all good.

Shangrila Chinese- they deliver, so this is the main reason I order from them. I've only tried a few items, but I love their Sesame Chicken, Szechuan Beef and Veggie Fried Rice. Their noodles are only okay and I get them when I'm craving them- huge portions. HUGE.

Peking Delight- Another one that delivers! They have really good spring rolls- they put cinnamon in it and it tastes a little odd at first because you're not expecting it, then it's delicious. I haven't had anything else that's amazing from them, so I've only ordered from here twice. Sadly. It would most likely be better fresh in the restaurant, their sauces make their breading soggy.

Meiko Sushi- They deliver, but charge a whole heck of a lot for it. So, don't do it! Mike liked their sushi- specifically the "cherry blossom". I liked their teriyaki, but the gyoza was what really shinned. Nice and crisp and delicious!! The teriyaki was a little thin and only so-so. Plus, I got a really bad piece of chicken that tasted rank, that ruined it.

Still looking for the best Chinese place around here, preferably one that delivers! :) If not, that's okay. I have a few places to try, one suggestion from a friend is Hunan Chef Wong's. Next date night!

Best Indian, hands down, is Haveli. Best butter chicken I have ever had and am constantly disappointed when I go other places. This place is family owned and delicious!

Alright, thanks for reading!
